Plein air at Fish Fiesta?

Would like to know if there are any plein air artists who would like to take part in the Fish Fiesta on Saturday, August 6th. The Fiesta will be held in the seafood tent on the waterfront in Yarmouth from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. or so. The idea is that painters could set up around and about the tent, capturing the scene and the atmosphere.
If you’re interested, Carole Bojarski would love to hear from you! 902 748-5567.

Roger Savage workshop

August 12-14, 2016: Plein air watercolour painting with Roger Savage, RCA.

Demonstration painting at a workshop.

The richness and variety of on-site painting motifs (rugged beach, forest, bog, and ponds) will be our inspiration for this unique weekend workshop. The group will be small to allow for one-on-one painting tips as well as daily critiques and demo paintings by the resource artist. Participants should have drawing skills, know the names of their colours, and have had some previous painting experience. Friday evening there’ll be a technical review and hands-on watercolour exercises. We’ll paint on location the following two days, and wrap-up the program at 4 pm Sunday. Roger is an experienced watercolour artist having led workshops in Cuba, Bermuda, Germany, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island. His work sparkles with light, energy and is painted directly on location, inspired by sites as familiar as Port Mouton, N.S., and remote as Sable and Ellesmere Islands (

Enrollment limited to 12 participants.

Photo exhibit announced

a Juried exhibit

A juried exhibition at the Art Gallery of Nova Scotia

Opening on September 9th 2016

The aim of this exhibit is to give some exposure to the wonderful photographic talent we have in SW Nova.

We are making every attempt to keep the process as simple as possible. There are no restrictions on camera equipment, age or experience. It’s wide open. If you have a great shot, submit it!

Entry Regulations

1. Participants must live in the SW Nova Tri-Counties: Digby, Yarmouth, or Shelburne.

2. Each participant is eligible to submit up to 6 images. Participants may choose which category each image will be entered in. Example: You may enter all six images in one category, or one image in each category, or any combination you prefer.

3. You may do basic adjustments like cropping, straightening, adjusting exposure etc.   Heavily manipulated images will not be accepted for consideration.

4. Entries will be emailed to [email protected]

5. Deadline for entries is August 5 at midnight, as we need time for judging and printing.

6. How to submit:

Submit .jpg images, at least 300 dpi, roughly 11 x 15.

We want the judges to be looking at the same quality and size of image.

Use a 4:3 ratio if that size works for your image. But we know some images

work better as a square, or as a 9 x 16. That’s just fine, too.

The final, selected images will be framed in black, 16 x 20, wooden frames with

white  matts. Matts may be in other sizes, but the frame size will be constant to

give a  professional look to the exhibit.

7. The Exhibit:

Successful participants will be asked to get their image printed. There is no

budget for this show, so it will have to be a co-operative effort.

I have 24 black frames which I will loan out.

We will not print on canvas for this Exhibit, in an effort to keep it uniform. Contact i

YAS Updates – What you need to know for the summer.

We are enjoying summer but do not stop with our activities.

The next meeting of the YAS will be on Saturday September 24th at 2 pm at Th’YARC.

During the months of August and September we will have a show at the lobby of Th’YARC at Parade Street. Participation is free for YAS members. Your work can be for sale and Th’YARC does not charge commission. If you want to participate, bring one or two works, that never have been shown, to the print shop of Th’YARC, in the last week of July. Be sure your work is ready to hang.

As soon as we have a date for the opening reception, I will let you know.

Probably there will be more YAS activities this summer, like maybe an art market.  You will get informed as soon as we know more.

Remember to choose work for the Hullabaloo!!

Have a wonderful summer,
